Baileys & Kahlua: Two Kittens Rescued with Severe Eye Infections

Just captured and brought indoors; As you can see, little Baileys (the girl) has worse eye infection

Sometimes rescue begins with something as simple as noticing.

One evening, our longtime volunteer Sabrina was driving through a rough neighborhood—an area where life can be especially difficult for outdoor cats, and where black cats can be particularly vulnerable. Their lives short lived.

And somehow, in the darkness, she spotted a tiny black kitten. Yes, we cat ladies really can spot a black cat on a dark night! 🐈‍⬛ But this little kitten wasn’t just wandering around. She was crying.

When Sabrina got closer, she could see something was terribly wrong. Here eyes were irritated and painful, stinging so badly that this tiny kitten clearly needed help. Then another kitten appeared. Her sibling. Two little kittens, alone and hungry.

Like any properly prepared cat woman, Sabrina went straight to the emergency supply of cat food she keeps in her trunk. She fed them, and they ate hungrily. But before taking them away, she waited. Was there a mother cat nearby? Were there more kittens hiding somewhere? Would another cat appear? None did. Sabrina returned the next day with a trap and safely captured both kittens so they could be taken to the veterinarian.

And That Was Only the Beginning

The little black kitten was named Kahlua, and his sister was named Baileys. Yup just like the liquor. Nice and sweet. They needed veterinary care, medication, good nutrition, a safe and comfortable place to recover—and time. That is what we provided. They deserve it.

Update Video: Baileys is still in some pain, but recovering; Her brother Kahlua doing much better!

Their veterinary expenses reached approximately $400 with followups, vaccinations, etc.

For the next two months, Baileys and Kahlua were cared for while their little bodies healed and grew stronger. And today? They have a clean bill of health.

Look at their photos. Look at the difference!

Will You Help Us Say Yes to the Next Baileys and Kahlua?

Baileys’ and Kahlua’s story has a happy ending because someone stopped, someone cared, and the resources were available to get them the veterinary treatment they needed.

But there will be another kitten. Another injured cat. Another frightened little face appearing from the darkness when someone least expects it.

We want to be able to say yes when that happens.

Please consider making a donation to Pawsitively Humane to help us recover Baileys and Kahlua’s veterinary expenses and continue helping the next animals who need us.

No donation is too small.

$5 helps. $10 helps. $25 helps. $50 helps.

When many compassionate people give what they can, those donations become veterinary exams, medications, food, vaccines—and second chances.

Baileys and Kahlua will never know the names of the people who helped pay for their care.

But they’ll know what it feels like to be safe.

And sometimes, that’s everything.

Please donate today—and help us be there for the next little cry in the night. 🐾
